A MARTIAL arts inst- ructor from Gloucester has launched a new course to keep workers safe on their way home as the nights draw in.

Murray Bruton, the owner of the Seishin Dojo studio in Constitution House, Bell Lane, has set up the classes to help people prepare for any danger they may face in the winter months.

Murray, 48, who has 37 years martial arts experience and 30 years teaching under his belt, said: "We have new classes for people who work in town and want to lose weight or just want some safety tips.

"The classes are called Total Human Defence which is an eclectic mix of martial arts training and education.

"I am currently targeting local businesses whose employees would benefit from learning self defence skills now the nights are drawing in.

"It is always best to be aware of these situations in advance so you know what to do."

The dojo was established on March 1, 2009. Seishin Dojo means 'the place of the way of truth' and was named after the type of karate Murray teaches - known as Seishin Dojo karate.

Classes are normally held on Monday to Friday, from 7.30pm until 11pm ,but Murray is holding open evenings this week from Tuesday to Friday from 4.45pm until 6pm.

Murray, who is father to Ellie and Jack, lives in Woods Orchard, Tuffley, with his partner Emma Furniss. He said: "I am hoping people will be able to come after work.

"We will teach people self defence skills which are really important in conflict resolution, as well as techniques to calm situations down and street awareness tips.

"They are informal and will hopefully give people a chance to come after work and find out more about what we do."

The dojo only teaches adults, but Murray is hoping to extend to children to help troubled teenagers clean up their act.

He added: "I only teach adults, but in the future I would like to do a youth programme and get some kids involved who may have lost their way because martial arts is a great discipline."

“Good luck to Seishin Dojo and all who sail in her.
I hope that Murray Bruton makes his pupils aware that all the Karate in the world won't overcome a Gun and being good at running away is also honourable.
As a pupil of the Shotokan Style of Karate I learned to never use it on the streets for fear that my Sensi would find out and I would be struck off the books in no uncertain manner.”

“This will make up for the pathetic Police Force that sucks up to criminals and the Courts whose sole purpose is to ensure the legal professionals within earn a good living. They never dispense justice.”
