SALVATION Army volunteers are hoping people will fall in love with their new base when it opens for the first time on St Valentine's Day.

The charity has bought the former Bird in Hand pub in Broadwell and has refurbished the downstairs of the building as its new base in the Forest.

The upstairs is set to follow soon but people will be able to have their first look around on February 14.

"We're hoping it will grow with the community when we know what the needs are," said chruch captian Vivienne Prescott.

"We know there will be a charity shop and we know we'll be opening at the end of the school day for students to drop in but there's no set plan beyond that."

The building's official opening will be held some time in the following weeks.

On St Valentine's Day it will open from 5pm to 9pm for people to visit.

“It's great to see the Salvation army growing in the forest of Dean. Here's hoping the people involved find an enthusiastic community to come along side and work with.”
