SAM Wilkes capped off a fantastic season by taking home two gongs at Cinderford's annual dinner and awards evening.

The hooker has recently returned from East Africa having won a call up for England Counties' three-match tour.

After overcoming a potentially fatal bout of cellulitis back in September, Wilkes fought his way back to fitness and into the Dockham Road side's first team.

That battling spirit earned him the Supporters Club Player of the Year and Front Row Forward of the Year awards with the team showing just as much fight to overcome a slow start to finish eighth in National One.

Mike Wilcox picked up First Team Player of the Year having impressed all season from full-back with winger Nev Codlin finishing top try scorer with 19.

Second row Ed King, who along with openside Will Foden and Wilcox made the most appearances this season with 29, was also awarded his County Cap.

Pete Towers collected the United XV Player of the year award while Patrick Worgan and Mitch Bourne took home the Stags and Colts trophies.

There was a special presentation to Danny Trigg in recognition of his 200th first team appearance.

Rob Worgan was awarded the Bloxham Cup and a special bouquet was presented for retiring stewardess Sue Roberts.

Nathan Green helped the Stags to a runners-up spot in the GRFU Premier Merit table after scoring 13 tries and 123 points.

Meanwhile the Colts won the Gwent Dragons League Division C, were semi-finalists in the Gwent Under-19s Cup and reached the quarter-finals of the RFU National Under-19s Cup.
