CHILDREN from 28 primary schools batted away in a summer rounders competition.

The Cheltenham and Tewkesbury Primary Cluster Rounders League Finals involved 300 children across five divisions.

Each school had at least five matches to play before the winner of each division was invited to Winchcombe School for the finals.

The successful finalists were Lakeside, Oak Hill, Tirlebrook, Swindon Village, Prestbury St Mary's and Holy Apostles.

Only three of the teams could make the finals, so Lakeside, Prestbury St Mary's and Swindon Village battled it out for the trophy.

After playing each other, Lakeside were named as the winning team with all of the finalists receiving certificates and the winners presented with medals.

The competition was organised by school sport co-ordinator Louise Brooks.

She said. "The three schools who attended the finals all played extremely well. There were some fantastic rounders players in all the teams but Lakeside just had the edge on the tactics.

"Well done to all the teams and we look forward to more primary schools entering the league next year."
