BEING familiar with their surroundings has enabled new pupils at Queen Margaret Primary School to settle in "fantastically well".

There are 23 children who have begun their formal education by joining the reception class at the school in York Road, Prior's Park, Tewkesbury.

Senior teacher Rebecca Drake said the key thing in enabling the children to feel at home in their new environment was the fact that most already knew it.

She said they had attended the Early Years' Centre on the school site and had several opportunities to experience life in the main school while they were there.

She said: "They've all settled in fantastically well. They're full of confidence and very happy."

Some of the children have also benefited by having their siblings and friends already at the school.
