A MEETING of the scrutiny committee has extended a review of refuse service provider UBICO by eight months.

Councillors questioning the efficiency of the service - which was set up by Cheltenham Council last April to help reduce the amount of residual waste going to landfill - hope to have a clearer understanding of its effectiveness by September.

Questions were raised about the service on Monday night after rubbish on a number of roads in the borough were left unattended during heavy snowfall in January - despite some streets having already been cleared.

But councillors have agreed to give it more time to "tie up loose ends" that may prove the service's worth.

“How can this be scrutinized by it's part owners?

Inside whitewash and more jollies for the boys and guess who is paying?!”

“It is NOT a private contractor hired by CBC. It was set up and is owned by CBC, along with Cotswold Council.”
