Second video in store wars
THE Co-op versus Tesco store wars in Cinderford have stepped up a gear after the Co-op released a second video high- lighting potential traffic problems in Dockham Road.
The new video, made by the Co-op's publicity team shows residents' reaction to a film they made showing two lorries mounting the kerb to pass each other near the entrance to the proposed Tesco store.
The video has been sent to the district council and posted on the internet. It's release comes less than two weeks before Tesco's plans for its Cinderford store go in front of the district council's development control committee on July 14.
Tesco spokesman Felix Gummer said: "The video is not relevant as we plan to widen the road and the layout will be different."

“Its about time that the Coop started channelling the thousands of pounds that they have been spending trying to keep Tesco out of town into getting their prices down for their customers instead of ripping them off with their monopoly.
As for the futile and pathetic videos they are the only ones that cause traffic choas in Dockham Rd when the huge Coop lorries don't have room to turn around near their store so they have to reverse in or out and totally block the road in ding so no matter who is driving or walking up the road. At least Tesco have a layout that allows their lorries to turn around within their own boundaries.
The reader that says bring back the small shops should ask the Coop to return the Chemist, Newsagent, Travel Agent and all the other shops that they have transferred to their store back to the centre of town.
Bring on TESCO the sooner the better.”

“Well we know CoOp arre scared stiff, they will object to any development even if Tesco bought the Triange and all the buildings around. Simple fact CoOp can't stand competition.
By the way they are somewhat economic with the deals they advertise in their leaflets. Evian bottles of 6 X 50 ml - buy one get one free. Number in Cinderford store - One pack!
They will say they've been sold out.
FACT - visited smaller but popular stores they run in Churchdown and Brockworth, surprise surprise - all shelves stacked and as much as I could carry. Answer that Cinderford management.
CoOp have a following of customers who feel they are ethical, well how dothey answer price differentials with Lydney where they have to compete with Tesco and their new stores of Somerfield. Actually we'd be better with Somerfield coming in as they offer better deals.
CoOp realise the majority of Cinderford want Tesco not YOU. Why not sell up and move out?”

“THE ARGUMENT IS NOT ABOUT TESCO OR THE CO-OP THE REALITY IS THERE IS INADEQUATE ROADWAYS FOR ACCESS TO ALL LARGER STORES IN SMALL TOWNS. THE LYDNEY/BREAM JUNCTION IS AN IDEAL EXAMPLE OF THE DISRUPTION IT CREATES. WITH INADEQUATE PARKING AT TESCO IN LYDNEY AND THE CREATION OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION ON THE ROAD NEARBY SHOULD SURELY PROVE ITS NOT PRACTICAL TO HAVE ANOTHER STORE IN CINDERFORD.MOTORISTS SKIP THROUGH THE CARPARK TO AVOID USING THE HIGHWAY AT PEAK TIMES - COME AND WATCH!! SUPPORT AND BRING BACK OUR LOCAL SHOPS AND AVOID THESE CHAINSTORE ARRIVALS. SOON ALL THE TOWNS SHOPS WILL BE CLOSED AND ONLY CHAINSTORES IN EXISTENCE. WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR TRAFFIC CHAOS? WE WILL NEED THEIR NUMBER SOON WHEN WE CANT GET IN AND OUT OF CINDERFORD!!
WHAT HAPPENED TO GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE?”

“And we have always been told that the Co-op was an ethical store!
When I was shown the video it seemed to me that the two lorries concerned were connected with the Co-op, this company cannot be trusted and I stopped using them over six months ago, others should do the same.”

“The Co-Op are deperate to hold onto their semi-monopoly in Cinderford aren't they. Just why are they scared of competition ?”
