A SECRET police camera has finished filming on a Linden road.

The device was installed in Grange Road after complaints of speeding. It recorded the speed of traffic over the first week of June.

Results show the average speed was 24mph in one direction and 25mph in the other.

Ten per cent of the 1,800 cars travelling along the road were driving faster than 40mph. The limit is 30mph.

Councillor Steve Morgan (Con, Grange) has asked police to repeat the exercise in October and hide the camera closer to the bridge.

"I am pleased the police responded quickly," he said.

"Results show well over 100 cars are exceeding the speed limit and it is still an issue there."

“made a mistake on my maths Matt1006, but the supplied figures shows that the majority of drivers are driving within the speed limits. Plus with all the speed bumps who drives fast anyway?”

    “LindenLady,
The camera was in Grange Road. Divvie1 has already pointed out that this is nowhere near Linden. It's a Tuffley story with a misleading headline.”

    “Not quite, darrglos.

10% were doing more than 40mph, so that's 180 drivers at least 33% over the speed limit. The article doesn't state how many were doing more than the 30mph limit, but less than 40mph, but the percentage of speeding drivers overall must be more than 10% of those recorded by this camera.”

“so we can gain from the hidden spy camera which checked 1800 cars that most drivers were in fact driving under the speed limit and only 100 people drove over the limit.”

“TiG. re. my earlier indiscretion, I'm really, REALLY sorry. I honestly didn't expect that to happen. Well done for it's hasty removal.
Phewy... I feel a great empathy towards that camera!”

“Fair play Glos council are rubbish, what a waste of money...... Linden Road already has speed bumps and has done for quite a few years now (which i though were sopossed to stop people speeding????) and i think by the school the speed limit has been reduced to 20mph (which if it hasn't it shd be)
Anyone who lives in and around Linden rd can say that there is a speeding problem and has been for ages so what do they do, put spat cameras on Seymour Rd which area total waste of money as a lot of people turn off the road before the end and bus's must not apply to the 20mph speed limit on Seymour Rd as they bomb along all the time and are rude and so do a lot of car.
Something needs to be done to stop people speeding in this area before someone gets hurt!!!!”

“So has this camera also generated speeding tickets for the 10% (180) recorded doing more than 40mph in a 30mph limit? If not, what was the point, apart from showing that there is a speeding issue on this particular road?

It's all well & good setting up a camera like this to investigate reports of speeding (and proving the original complaint was genuine), but if the offenders aren't punished, then it's pointless. Anybody caught doing more than 40 in a 30 limit should be punished, simple as. So have they been...???”

“For the best really... It would not be much of a secret anymore, now you've blown its cover in the regional news, TiG.”
