WEDDING couple Carly and Gifford Morris and their guests used their big day to remember families struggling to cope with sick children.

Bride Carly, 27, and her 30-year-old groom asked their loved ones to give donations to charity instead of gifts.

The new Mr and Mrs Morris, who live in Cashes Green, felt they were so lucky to already have two healthy children that they requested support for the James Hopkins Trust.

And their selfless gesture drummed up £1,200.

Carly said: "We have no pain and suffering and to be aware and remember that other families around us are not as fortunate as ourselves is heart breaking.

"We hoped that by our guests donating so kindly to the trust it will get closer to its dream of building a bedroom extension on its Kite's Corner respite centre."

Carly, who works in the hotel services department at Stroud Maternity Hospital, and her husband, an asphalt supervisor who is better known by his nickname Giff, are proud parents to Finlay, five, and 20-month-old Sky.

Their £1,200 presentation to the James Hopkins Trust in Barnwood included £270 raised when their friend Mark Smith, 30, from Nailsworth, had his chest and back waxed.

Carly and Giff have been together for 12 years.

The new bride said: "We were engaged seven years, decided to buy a house, then start a family and then the time came when we managed to put all of our dreams and experiences into our wedding to share with our family and friends how much we love and cherish each other and everyone."

The trust was founded in Gloucester boy James Hopkins' memory by his family and friends. He suffered from a rare neuromuscular disease and died in 1989 when he was just 20 months old.

The charity enables respite and nursing care so that severely disabled, life-threatened and life-limited children can be cared for at home.
