A burglar already serving a four year jail term for crimes in Cheltenham has admitted four other raids in the town dating back up to 11 years.

But the court heard he will not serve any longer in prison for the crimes.

Kenneth Davis, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to breaking into a house in Roman Hackle Avenue on November 10 last year and stealing a Nintendo Wii and games, 10 DVDs, a camera and a mobile phone.

He asked Gloucester Crown Court to take into account three other house burglaries committed in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Prosecutor Lisa Hennessy said Melvin Bettridge returned from work to his home in Roman Hackle Avenue on November 10 last year and found he had been burgled and an untidy search had been carried out.

His Wii console and other property were missing, and when police checked the premises, they found several of Davis' fingerprints.

Mrs Hennessy said that since committing the offences, Davis had been jailed for four years in March this year for 25 burglaries in and around the Cheltenham area.

Judge Martin Picton said he was satisfied that if this week's charges had been before the court in March as well, they would not have added to the length of Davis' sentence.

He therefore passed a term of two years and seven months, concurrent with his existing sentence, so that he does not have to serve any longer.

In March, Davis was jailed for four years after he admitted burglaries in Elm Road and Byron Road, Cheltenham, and asked for 23 others to be taken into consideration.

In Elm Road on January 31, he stole foreign coins. The next day, in Byron Road, he stole cash and two watches.

Because of his previous convictions for burglary he was a 'three strikes and you're out' offender liable to a minimum three-year jail term.
