Seven vehicles were seized and two people were fined for fuelling their cars with red diesel after a police operation in Lydney.

Police and partner organisations detected over 20 vehicle offences during an Automatic Number Plate Recognition operation on Wednesday.

More than 100 vehicles were stopped, with seven being seized for having no insurance and two found to be fuelled by red diesel.

The tractor and car that were found using the illegal fuel were given £250 fines.

A man received a street caution for possession of cannabis, one man was given a fine for driving with a dangerous load and ten people were ordered to rectify faults on their vehicles.

Forest Inspector Chris Thorley said: “These operations send out a very strong message to those who consistently flout motoring laws and are a very good way of detecting such offences and other criminality.

“Keeping our roads safe and ensuring fairness for other road users and the general public is a key part of our work and something law-abiding motorists are always keen to ensure we carry on doing, which we will.”

Forest officers, the road policing unit and dog section, Trading Standards, HM Customs & Revenue, the Vehicle and Operative Services Agency and the Driver Vehicle Licensing Agency were involved in the operation on the A48.
