Community radition station Severn FM is closing down this Saturday.

It had served the Quedgeley, Kingsway and Hardwicke communities for 18 months.

Its army of volunteers have gone on the airwaves each week, involving schools, councillors, older students and ordinary members of the public.

But it was reliant on advertising from local businesses - and that money has dried up.

The last show will broadcast on Saturday from 8am until 10am before the equipment is dismantled and returned to its owner.

Previous shows will remain on the website with the hope that the station can be resurrected in 2014 with the next round of community grants becoming available.

Founder Andy Clarke said: "We have all invested a lot of time, energy, emotion and effort into creating a great station, however, we have had to be objective about the current situation and have had to make a very difficult decision but one that never-the-less needed to be made."

“Severn FM was good for Quedgeley, Hardwicke, Kingsway, and it is very sad that they have to close down, this station was for the community and was really good, it was a non profit making business, and volunteers.

It is really up setting that LOCAL stores/companies could not sponsor this local radio station, we have large supermarkets in Quedgeley, who make a lot of money, so why did they not help and work with the community? As they are suppose to be part of Quedgeley.

Lets hope that someone reading this, will do something to help the local Radio out.

They have done a fantasic job, well done to all of you guys.”

“I am one of the volunteer presenters at SevernFm. It is a great shame that tha staion has to close because of a lack of funding. Just a few more local advertisers or donations could have made all the difference to keeping the station alive. SevernFM has been a great assest to the Hardwicke and Quedgely community providing a varied mix of information and music programmes and I hope its not too long before SevernFM can get back on air.
