Severn and Wye Smokery wins Olympic contract
SOME of Gloucestershire's finest cuisine will be served up to Olympic bigwigs after a lucrative contract was awarded to the Severn and Wye Smokery.
The Chaxhill fish specialists curried favour with no less than five-time gold medal winner Sir Steve Redgrave to secure their place at the London games in the summer.

SOME-FIN-SPECIAL: Severn and Wye Smokery owner Richard Cook, left, and fishmonger Clive Rowlands.
They will be among a select band of food producers supplying delicious dishes in the £10million corporate hospitality village where sponsors and companies will wine and dine key guests.
"We're absolutely delighted," said Dai Francis, from the smokery.

"We'll be there for the duration of the Olympics serving smoked salmon, smoked haddock, herrings and a few other things.
"We had to pitch our food and were up against quite a few others but it's fantastic news to get selected."
The smokery was chosen to serve up its treats by food services experts Sodexho and Prestige Ticketing, both of which are involved in behind the scenes organising at the games.
Rowing legend Sir Steve got a taste of what the company is famous for at an event in London at the end of March.
"He absolutely loved it," said Mr Francis. "He said it was delicious, which is very pleasing."
He added: "We've done a few things with Prestige before, we're doing Ascot with them this year too and we are used to big events.
"I don't know who exactly we will be serving food too, only that it's the corporate hospitality village.
"In terms of the contract, we don't know what it's worth in total, it's a question really of how long is a piece of string at the moment."
All the dishes will be prepared in Chaxhill before being transported over to the capital's biggest show.
The smokery is well used to the pressure that comes with such a prestigious event, though. It counts The Ryder Cup, Wimbledon, Royal Chelsea Flower Show, Grand National, most premiership football clubs and the Emirates Palace in Dubai among its long list of clients.
Councillor Diana Edwards (Con, Newnham and Westbury), who covers Chaxhill, said: "I am absolutely delighted for them, I can't think of anyone better.
"They are a real feather in the cap for this area and I feel really proud that they will be going to the Olympics, they deserve it."
