Sex club plan for Gloucester hotel
A hotel could be transformed into an 'adult entertainment' venue under plans submitted to Gloucester City Council.
The proposals would see the New County hotel in Southgate Street turned into a restaurant, with a private members club at the rear of the ground floor.

The club would be aimed at the gay community, as well as at people enjoying "alternative sexual lifestyles".
The company behind the plans is called Mystique, and is based in Quedgeley.
A spokesman said: "The bar and restaurant will be open to the public during the day with a daytime menu to suit most tastes but with a strong vegetarian/ pescatarian theme.
"The evening however will have a saucy menu to giggle at.
"Through a simple registration process you can access "Club Mystique" which carries the title of a hotel and private members club.
"Once inside, the ballroom will lend itself to high energy nights for gay parties and swinging couples on rotating weekends.
"There will be elaborate themed evenings of entertainment, which will give you an opportunity to dress outlandishly."
"Upstairs on the first floor the open playrooms will be themed in popular styles such as Arabian nights, mirrored room, gothic room and a fetish room for adult enjoyment in a controlled clean environment."
The plans were welcomed by Andrew Harley, who runs the Gay News UK website from Kingsholm.
He said: "This will be a good thing for Gloucestershire.
"With the closure of the Monday night gay night at Crackers it has been difficult to get the word out among the lesbian, gay and bisexual community in Gloucester as there is not a single place to meet."
Pastor Colin Pavitt of the nearby Brunswick Baptist Church declined to comment directly on the plans.
He said: "My position is very simple, everyone needs to repent of their sins and everyone is in need of Jesus."

“its harmless adult fun with consenting adults but i think the person behind the idea is being naive in thinking gay members of our society would be happy sharing a venue with swingers? i for one wont go there for this reason. i wish the proprietor all the best but the gay community needs a venue of its own not sharing it with a swingers venue. gloucestershire has long been needing a gay scene and Crackers was seedy so it didnt meet this need, however swingers and gays should have a separate venue. once labelled a swingers hotel it will be difficult to establish it as being otherwise. as 4 the veggie thing, nice thought but i think anyone considering a business venture needs to incorporate meat eaters as steak houses are still the the most profitable business wise. will be watching with interest as to how well this place functions if planning goes through. swingers and gays veggies and meat eaters? hmmm. interesting combination if it can work!!! i do however get the impression that this is a venture being entered into on a whim without hindsight or foresight. fantasm particularly has much to say and i wonder if he/she has a vested interest in this? as for all the comments about the clergyman who was asked to comment shame on you for tearing him to pieces as a man of the cloth is bound to air his views from a religion point of view. anyyway in a nutshell good luck for the proposals and i hope it all goes well. live and let live but do it honestly!!!!!!!!!! gloucester does need to be brought out of the dark ages but it must be tasteful. anything less than this will fail miserably.”

“I wonder which bit of this most of the NIMBYs are upset about? The Gay & Lesbian aspect or the 'Swingers'? Many people would be surprised to know just how many of each there are in their circle of friends. This venue will give many the opportunity to mix with like minded people and express themselves fully without offending the sensibilities of others more narrow-minded than themselves. It will undoubtedly cause less trouble and far quieter than most of the 'entertainment venues' in the city. I commend the Pastor for his comments which were inclusive and tollerant. He has his beliefs and others have theirs. Judge not, lest ye be judged!
And yes, I shall be visiting the club.”

“Being discrete about certain things is NOT the same as being ashamed.
There is no need to be discrete about sexual orientation, but to generally publicise a venue specifically focused on sex (alternate or otherwise) seems to be a bit silly and only result in a thoroughly talked about topic.
Absolutely Nothing wrong nor Shameful with having such venues if people want them, but those who cannot understand why discretion would be better...well...sigh....”

“I agree with not being so harsh on the vicar. I'm an atheist and believe that there is more hate, cruelty and general ridiculousness, through the ages, over religion and "fighting" for one's country than anything else. BUT not everyone who believes in gods is bad and this guy would be a hypocrite to his own beliefs to just say "no comment". We should reserve our intense disapproval for REAL religious wrongdoers. This guy was asked a question and answered it predictably. Why ask the guy in the first place?? What did they EXPECT his answer to be? Anyway It's not like any of us are going to rush out and flagellate ourselves in shame because of his words¿ - come to think of it, the hotel may have a room for that.
Pay no attention Simon. You answered the question honestly, that¿s all. I don¿t agree with you, but you said the right thing for you.”

“Hey "LIS, GLOS"
stop having a pop at the vicar blokie. He was asked for his opinion and he gave it. He didn't have a go at the gay commnity, he put the whole of humanity in the same boat, and said that we all do bad things!
You say that you have chosen NOT to live a religious life, well, he HAS chosen to live one, so leave him alone.
If you go all "Anti-religious" it makes you as bad as religious guys going all "anti-gay"”

“The Pastor didnt make any DIRECT jab at the club- but instead of leaving it at no comment he then proceeded to speal off from the bible- whilst these may be his beliefs, they are not the majorities- religion causes more trouble than it hsould or is worth- oh and religion is at an all time low- I personally do not like reiligious people spouting out verses from the Bible- I have chosen NOT to live a religious life and have the right not to have to be hinted that if Im gay/ Bi/ swinger/ doggers then i am a sinner- that thoery is outdated. If the Bible is to be believed we are all incestuous scum anyway- thats really bad in some religions??”

“Thank you John for being a prime example of bigoted religious zealotry, folk like you are always good for a laugh! I look forward to seeing you wearing a rut in the pavement outside this establishment with your banner declaring "repent..." or some other irrelevence. Wibble wibble...”

“Now, Anon of Gloucester That's an interesting take on bigotry. I'm going through all the jokes but I can only find one name listed. Anon of Gloucester. Perhaps you ought to get on your bicycle (sorry, Citroen Picasso) on two wheels and take the bypass. Don¿t enter the elegant town of Cheltenham. We have no need of your ilk around here.”
