Sharples won't be tied down by the Wallabies – Hogg

CHARLIE Sharples has been backed to make the transition from England's right wing to the left against Australia at Twickenham tomorrow by Gloucester forwards coach Carl Hogg.

The Cherry and Whites speedster grabbed his first tries for his country last week when he crossed the whitewash twice against Fiji.

That performance has seen him rewarded with just his fourth cap against the two-time world champions at a sold out home of rugby.

With the return of Saracens wing Chris Ashton from a domestic ban, head coach Stuart Lancaster has shifted Sharples from one side to the other but Hogg says he will have no problem adjusting to it.

"Charlie played across the backline for us last year and has played full-back for us so he is well aware of the relationships that he needs to build," said former Scottish international Hogg.

"It will be a challenge for him but he is more than capable of fulfilling that.

"Charlie had an excellent game at Twickenham last week so we are all very pleased as a club for Charlie and getting that opportunity to play against Australia, who are a big Tri Nations side, is very exciting for Charlie.

"His form for us this year has been exceptional so it is a just reward for him and hopefully he can back that up against Australia."
