An M&S spokesperson said yesterday: "We would like to apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused as a result of the temporary closure of the Eastgate Street store today.
"A fault to the drainage and refrigeration systems caused the basement shop floor to remain shut throughout the day and the remainder of the store was closed between 9.30am and 12.30pm.

“The definition of "evacuate" is "remove the contents from ..." dictionary doesn't say urgently or quickly. So if customers left the store, then they "evacuated".”

“Evacuation? That suggests alarms going off, and everybody being told to head for the nearest exit as quickly as possible. As would happen if the fire alarm went off.
From what is reported as being the problem, I wouldn't have thought an "evacuation" was necessary, more a simple request by shop-floor staff to ask customers to leave the store at their earliest convenience.
TiG getting over-excited again...?”
