Simon Pegg urges fans to back polio charities
HOLLYWOOD actor Simon Pegg has urged people to get behind a group of Gloucestershire charities in their bid to wipe out a killer disease.
Rotary clubs in the county are running the Polio ‘Mile’itus Challenge 2013, which encourages people to fill in a 12-inch cardboard strip with coins, which will eventually be combined and laid out end-to-end to stretch for a whole mile.
Leaders behind the innovative scheme hope it will raise £15,000 for the End Polio Now campaign.
Shaun of the Dead star Pegg, from Brockworth, has written to express his support.
He said: “I wish Cheltenham Rotary clubs every success and hope that they achieve their target of one mile of coins, which will help save countless youngsters from contracting this dreadful disease, along with the paralysis which it often brings.”
