Sir Thomas Rich's prepare for Daily Mail Cup clash with RGS, High Wycombe

Unbeaten Sir Thomas Rich's School enjoyed the perfect preparation for this afternoon's Under-18 Daily Mail Cup fifth round clash with RGS, High Wycombe.

On Saturday they were given a thorough workout after battling against a stern Warwick School side in a friendly match that proved to be a tough encounter.

Traditional powerhouses Warwick  lived up to their reputation and provided the Longlevens side with a tough examination at Oakleaze.

But the hosts emerged 24-10 winners, running in four tries in the process of extending their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Tommies deputy head Chris Carter, said it was the ideal warm-up because the standard of rugby they will be facing against RGS today (kick-off 1.30pm) will be similar to that of Warwick.

He said: "RGS, for them, have had a fairly mixed season but they are a quality side.

"They have beaten some good sides to get to round five and in two previous years their Under-15s have got through to the cup final at Twickenham, so they have some good young players in Year 11 and the lower sixth. But I'm confident we can go down there and get a result, with a full side."

The game will be played at Maidenhead RFC's 4G pitch, because the RGS pitch is not playable.

Tommies did not rest any players on Saturday, despite Wednesday's Cup game being one of the most important of the season.

However, several key players were missing from the squad as they were playing for the Gloucester Academy.

Number eight Sam Underhill, centre Joe Carolan and scrum-half and captain Ollie Young did not feature as they turned out for the Premiership team's Under-18s in their 10-8 victory over Northampton.

But Carter confirmed that they would return for today  and was optimistic about the team's chances in the cup.

"The way our boys have been playing this season we are still unbeaten and it is going to take a very good side to knock us out," said Carter.

"We've got to take each game as it comes but I think this side is better than last year, and in last year's competition we reached the quarter finals so who knows, they could go all the way."
