GAS companies are used to supplying a lick of flame, but in Warden Hill they have given residents a chance to win an award.

Members of Warden Hill in Bloom were left disappointed when Wales and West Utilities knocked down a Cotswold stone substation and replaced it with less than picturesque green metal box.

But the business soon responded to their concerns by planting trees and doing up the area in anticipation of the Heart of England competition the group wants to enter this summer.

Councillor Anne Regan (C, Warden Hill) said the area near the junction of Salisbury Avenue and Caernarvon Road had been transformed.
