Snow in the hills but warmer weather on the way

SNOW flurries left parts of Gloucestershire covered in a white blanket yesterday – as this hardy jogger on Cleeve Hill found out.

But weather experts say these are the last vestiges of winter – with warmer temperatures around the corner.

The Met Office said the mercury was due to rise to 9C (48F) today with sunny spells the rest of the week.

Gloucestershire Media weather watcher Ian Thomas said county residents were in for a mild end to the week.

"Any snow left on high areas will melt away and should be gone within the next couple of days," he said.

"The temperature will be around 9C in the day, remaining mild over the weekend.

"We're still only in February, so it's not spring yet, but it will be nice to have some clearer, milder days."

    “Cleeve hill is not In Cheltenham it is Bishops Cleeve and Southam, Also cleeve hill is also sometimes known as its own village. Why do writers on thisisgloucestershire never seem to notice villages in there own right and always say they are part of Cheltenham or Gloucester!”
