No children have been removed from foster parents in Gloucestershire because of views on race, politics or religion.

Today Gloucestershire County Council confirmed that's the case, after Rotherham Council hit national headlines over withdrawing three children from the care of two UKIP members.

The Daily Telegraph revealed the council took the children away because the couple supported UKIP's "racist" policies. UKIP denies its immigration policies are racist and the authority has started an internal inquiry.

Education Minister Michael Gove called Rotherham council's decision "indefensible".

It comes as Gloucestershire County Council will have an adoption and fostering information stand at Stonehouse Goodwill Festival this Saturday (1st December) from 2pm to 5pm.

The county council needs people to come forward from all walks of life willing to adopt and foster children of all ages.

There is no upper age limit to adopt or foster and Gloucestershire County Council is keen to hear from married and unmarried couples, single people, lesbian and gay couples and individuals, those who have their own children, homeowners or those renting a property. All children are different and to meet their needs the county council is looking for a wide variety of people.

For further information call 01452 427753 (adoption) or call 01242 532654 (fostering).

“I'm relieved GCC social services don't get involved in this ridiculous 'vetting' of peoples political views. There are two points here - (1) it is none of their business and doesn't affect your capability to foster and (2) although I have never supported Ukip, reading about them they are NOT racist but do want controls on numbers allowed in.
The term 'racist' is over-used, especially when anyone dare mention hospitals, schools and housing is overstretched. These people need to grow up.”
