DISABLED soldier Private Derek Derenalagi is competing in the 2012 Paralympics today.

A previous record-setter in the shot-put and javelin events in British and European competitions, the Imjin-based troop will be competing for Paralympic glory in the F57 discus competition

Originally from the island nation of Fiji, the ARRC Support Battalion soldier was severely injured while on deployment in Afghanistan.

Originally feared to have died in the blast, a doctor at Camp Bastion's hospital found a barely-detectable pulse and quickly operated on him and saved his life,
