Speech House bonfire cancelled
Organisers of the Forest of Dean's biggest fireworks display have cancelled it because of worsening conditions under foot.
The bonfire has been built in Speech House field but won't be lit tomorrow after the plug had to be pulled on the biggest annual fundraiser for two of the district's leading charitable groups.
It's put on by the Severn Dean Lions and Forest of Dean Lions. Chairman of the organising F.E.R.N. (Fireworks, Entertainment and Rides at Night) committee Dave Reid said: "Both groups have probably lost something like £5,000-£10,000 each, it's the biggest fundraiser of the year and all the profits get used locally.
"It's a huge shame but we had an inspection of the ground today and we just don't think it's possible. There's real concern about getting vehicles in, and then out again without needing assistance and the conditions are expected to worsen still.

“I cannot understand why it's been cancelled, for years + years we'd go to firework displays and even on rainy November nights they were never called off! No doubt it's some health & safety bo****ks!”
