Speeding drivers in Stroud Road 'could cause serious accident'
SPEEDING drivers could cause a serious accident in Stroud Road, according to people who live there.
A combination of bad parking and drivers flouting a 20mph speed limit could have lethal consequences, believes Stephen Marriott.
He is urging police to step up patrols in the Park End Road and Linden Road end of the street, before it is too late.
"Vehicles are speeding all the time in Stroud Road," he said. "Sometimes they reach 50-60mph.

"There has already been an accident there at night recently, taking out two front walls near Linden Road.
"It is getting dangerous. There is a pedestrian crossing and I have seen a few near misses because cars are going too fast. It is a bad accident waiting to happen."
Mr Marriott said pavement parking was forcing people with pushchairs or wheelchairs into the road. He wants repeat offenders to be clamped or towed away.
Unrestricted parking along Stroud Road has left it open season for drivers, who can park where they like.
A police spokesman said: "We are aware of traffic issues in this area previously and have carried out operations there. In light of this information we will be focusing more patrols along the road and assessing the situation. Obstructive parking and speeding can cause real danger and inconvenience and we take these matters seriously."
Sally Godwin, county council highways manager, said: "Following previous concerns in Park End Road and Linden Road, we've already installed a 20mph speed limit. We would ask drivers to park considerately so pedestrians can use the pavement safely. Any obstructive or illegal parking should be reported to the police."
