Determined to play with the stereotypes of the changing seasons, the plot aims to be a darker, sharper version of the powerful comedy.

"It needs to ring loudly in our ears, ensuring that this fabulous comedy is not seen only as a twee, outdoor summer production in tights but one full of seriously strong, biting flavours."

Believed to have been written between 1590 and 1596, the play sees star-crossed lovers Lysander, Hermia, Demetrius and Helena, all of whom are in love with the partners they shouldn't be.

We follow the adventures of the four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The show starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost from £9. Call 01684 295074.
