Starbucks is "profitable" but paid no TAX for 3 years!

“We have many people from the EU here sending back money to their homeland, national utilities that are almost exclusively foreign owned and therefore partly taking their profits out of the country, major companies like Vodafone, Starbucks and others that are not paying any tax in the UK. Wealthy people such as Rupert Murdoch widely known not to have paid tax in this country, so is it any wonder that our national debt has increased year on year since the crash?
The sad thing is that you can bet that the government's answer to the shortfall will be to raise the tax burden on the middle classes.”

“If we drank Starbucks coffee and left without paying they'd be pretty angry but it's the same as Starbucks not paying their taxes to the government as they are using the national infrastructure to run their business and not paying for it.”

“This is another example that private company accountants are more switched on than the governments tax specialists. HMRC lay down the rules and then are beaten/spanked at their own game.
Imagine this: You are an accountant at a private firm. Your rules on the collection of monies rightfully due doesn't materialise and won't materialise due to careless, amateurish rules that you have put in place yourself, how long would you remain in that job?
This example isn't a case of the company account being clever; it is fast becoming the norm.”

“OK we can boycott Starbucks, but how many other companies and wealthy individuals pay little or no tax? High time the government "grew some" and got serious about tackling the huge grey area that spans tax avoidance and tax evasion. Some chance though - "turkeys voting for Christmas" and all that!”
