"The caller stayed on the phone with the Fire Control Operator to receive fire safety advice and reassurance, until crews arrived at the incident.

"Watch Commander Chris Barton and 10 firefighters arrived on the scene to be confronted with smoke issuing from a ground floor flat.

"Watch Commander Barton committed two breathing apparatus crews into the building. Once inside they found one room in the flat was well alight. Using two hosereels and one jet they extinguished the fire and searched the building to ensure all the residents were safe.

"Positive pressure ventilation was used to clear the smoke logged building once the fire was out.

"Ambulance crews treated one male neighbour at the scene for smoke inhalation, and police cordoned off the area to ensure the safety of the public.

"Crews were detained at the scene for an hour. Before they left fire crews posted fire safety leaflets through neighbouring properties advising people of the fire safety checks and free smoke alarm fitting carried out by the fire service."
