COACH boss Brian Beavis is to be honoured by having a street named after him.

Mr Beavis, founder of the Stroud-based business BEW Beavis which still bears his name, died aged 96.

The family firm remains based in Bussage, where Mr Beavis grew up and always lived. But the road outside the address is a small, unnamed street.

Chalford Parish Council have therefore agreed the road should in future be known as Brian Beavis Way.

The idea has still to gain the support of the half dozen householders in the street and also the backing of Stroud District Council.

But Mr Beavis' daughter Anita Baxter said: "It is an honour really. I think he would have been quietly pleased."

Chalford Parish Councillor Len Taylor put forward the idea.

Chalford clerk Christine Prince said: " The procedure is we have to actually contact the householders in the lane who'd be affected by the proposed address change. We have to get their support in principle.

"Once we have that in writing we sent it to the district with a fee."

Passionate about his coaches, great-grandfather Mr Beavis loved his family and said Mrs Baxter who is continuing the business.
