Stroud people battle the blizzard
COMMUTERS battled their way to work despite a blizzard which blanketed roads and pavements.
Despite stuck lorries, abandoned vehicles, ever-worsening ice on roads, people did their best to beat last Friday's weather.

My trip to Stroud started with a diversion around a lorry stuck on the wrong side of the road on the crest of a rise on the A46 in Inchbrook.
Patient drivers tailed back to Frogmarsh while motorists helped get the lorry moving.

Golden Cross handled a small fraction of the traffic it normally does and another lorry struggled on the ice on the incline in Bath Road.
Two lorries stranded at Wallbridge forced drivers to head the wrong way round the mini-roundabouts and against the normal flow of traffic as queues built up on Dr Newton's Way.
Across the Five Valleys and Severn Vale, roads were shut but some motorists were determined to get through, no matter what.
One car dropped into a garden in Nailsworth and three vehicles formed a muddle which blocked Parliament Street between Ryeleaze Road and Hollow Lane.
And one unfortunate Ford Mondeo driver dropped into the town police station car park before the gritter arrived.
Undeterred by the gradient, the Gloucestershire Highways driver simply dumped more grit to get his machine moving and keep many roads safe and open.
Schools may have shut but Stroud District Council managed to open Stratford Park Leisure Centre, Dursley Pool, The Museum in the Park and the Sub Rooms, only closing Maidenhill Sports and Dance Centre and Thomas Keble and Wotton sports centres over the weekend.
There has been a market in The Shambles for more than 700 years and the snow did not deter hardy traders from opening their stalls.
