A SCHOOL with no electricity in Gambia is being helped by a Stroud lecturer.

Sports lecturer Julie Pimm, at South Gloucestershire and Stroud College, has ventured out to the school to lend a hand.

The school teaches 2,000 pupils but has no power, no computers and a library with a limited selection of books but no furniture for the pupils to sit and read.

Classrooms are equipped with old blackboards, chairs and tables in rooms with damaged roofs.

“Stop pretending you will be their guardian angel - they will have to find their own sustainable solutions - not a casual visitor interested in a photo-opportunity.”
