Weekend

Q. I have a size 14, hourglass figure, but would love to wear skinny jeans.  I've tried a few pairs on but haven't found a pair that work for me.  What would you suggest?

A. The trick to wearing skinnies on a more curvaceous figure is finding a high-rise pair that isn't too skinny on the calf.  As an 'hourglass' you will have a smaller waist and the higher rise should ensure a better fit.  This season there are more high-rise styles available, so you should be able to find a pair that work for you.

  2. Cobalt blue jacket, £59.99 from Zara

The creme de la creme of jeans are by JBrand.  Although an investment at £235, their fabrics are fabulous and they hold their shape really well.  These ones are called Sasha and are available from denim boutique Trilogy at www.trilogystores.co.uk

This fantastic rich rouge noir colour is truly on trend and this style also comes in a blue black.

On the high street, these dark wash skinny jeans from Next tick all the boxes at £30.  They also come in black.

If they feel too snug on the leg, Next also does a slim fit version, which may work better.  Once you find your perfect pair, if you can, buy a second pair as you won't want to be without

them.

Q. I need some smart comfortable ankle boots to wear with trousers/jeans – but no sky-high heels please!  Any ideas?

A. I love this pair of ankle boots from Whistles.  Whistles launched their footwear collection last season and have been doing some great styles.  These are available in Cavendish House, Cheltenham, and are called Kir Royale (£150).

The style would easily take you from desk to dinner.  The heel gives you some lift but is  comfortable enough to run around in all day – sensible but stylish –  perfect.

From the M&S Footglove collection this block heeled suede pair promises to be super comfy at £50.  The mink colourway is also a great transitional tone.

I know you said no sky-high heels, but I just had to show you this fabulous pair of ankle boots from Cara.

Called Babylon they are available in black or navy suede (£130).  They manage to be both very high and very classy.

Q. Where can I find a smart-casual jacket that would take me from work to teaming it with jeans?

A. I often suggest that clients  introduce jackets into their closet as a way of looking instantly pulled together.

These styles  are all great value at under £70 and would look equally good in the office as they would worn more casually with jeans.

The J by Jasper Conran jacket would easily fit into a monochrome work wardrobe and is available from the Designers at Debenhams collection (£65).

High street brand Zara makes some lovely jackets and this cobalt blue one adds an instant punch of on-trend colour to your wardrobe (£59.99).

For softer styling there is some great structured knitwear in the stores and this wool cardigan with metal cording is fabulous for work and play with its subtle peplum detailing (£69.99).  Both are available online at www.zara.com
