IT'S looking like a mix of weather over the weekend and beyond. Saturday may start off dull but the cloud will break to allow sunny spells and temperatures of 19-21C (66-70F).

A weakening weather front will move down across the country on Sunday with some light and patchy rain before clearing later.

The new week promises some unsettled conditions at first before a return to summer-like weather from mid-week and let's hope it lasts. That's it then! September is here and summer 2012 done, dusted and put to bed and many will say thank God for that!

The whole of the three months have been wet to say the least and my figures suggest this is the second wettest summer in over 40 years of records with 2007 still at the top.

The bank holiday weekend was more or less a washout with just one fine day. Saturday witnessed torrential downpours as the low tracked north across Britain. Cheltenham saw rain of biblical proportions as an estimated 30-40mm fell during the afternoon thunderstorms.

Jilly and I were passing through London late afternoon as a thunderstorm was underway. Some tube stations were closed due to flooding as 18-25mm fell in one hour. Parts of Cambridge and Coventry were deluged with similar flood problems.

Sunday proved a better day before the rains returned on Monday with a further 10mm by 4pm.

However, August has turned out the warmest since 2003 here with a mean temperature of 17.55C (63.6F).
