THIS "super lab" is part of a £3.4million redevelopment at Millbrook Academy in Brockworth.

Kitted out with touch-screen monitors, interactive projector screens and rows of work stations, it is large enough for three classes of children to work in.

Principal Jan Scott cut the ribbon on the new science and business centre on Friday.

Mrs Scott said: "It's amazing. The children's jaws dropped when they saw it. It really does put science back where it should be in the 21st Century.

"I have wanted a new facility here since I started three years ago. The old science block was really dreadful, subsiding and dark and the teachers did a good job keeping science alive in it.

"Now they have the facility they deserve."

Gloucestershire County Council used developer contributions to pay for the new block which includes two rooms for performing arts, one for PE and spaces for business studies.

“Couldn't they have somebody better to officially open the new building/cut the ribbon? - Simon Pegg, the Hollywood comedy actor used to go to the school (when it was Brockie Comp) back in the late 80's. He's been back to give a talk to the kids more than once so he still knows where it is. His family used to be my neighbours when we lived in Castle Hill Drive, Abbotswood.”

“Looks great, but I feel sorry for the new homeowners in Nightjar Road that have to look out of the back windows on an office block with many lights all round the building just yards from their back gardens. It's probably why the houses just don't sell on the school side of that road, one 4 bedroom detatched has been for sale for almost 18 months!”
