INTREPID fundraisers found a novel way of keeping warm during the cold snap.

Some 35 people took a few scorching steps as part of a firewalking challenge organised by Cheltenham-based child bereavement charity Winston's Wish.

A crowd of 250 turned out to cheer on the walkers, who included Gloucestershire Echo's own Mark Devereux-Renny, as they took to the coals at Brickhampton Court Golf Complex in Churchdown.

They managed to raise £10,000 A spokeswoman for Winston's Wish said: "We were really impressed and calling them our red hot heroes."

“I worked for a corporation who thought that this would be a 'good idea' as a team building exercise. I flatly refused to do it because I much prefer my feet the way they are.
Out of the 40 or so idiots who did the fire walk, 18 of them ended up in casualty with severe burns, 3 of them were off work for weeks.
Not too surprising, a bit like jumping off a building and finding out that the pavement is a bit hard.”
