Surgery to double in size in Abbeydale
PATIENTS facing long waiting times in Abbeydale will be delighted with expansion plans for the Hadwen Medical Practice in Glevum Way.
A long-standing legal agreement to reserve land behind the existing building has been lifted, allowing the practice to begin negotiations to purchase the site and develop the existing building and car park.

PLANS: The Hadwen Practice.
A caveat on the plot stated the area should be set aside for a library, but the land is now considered surplus to county council requirements.
Practice manager Ian Robertson said: "We are set to discuss the proposals with the Primary Care Trust next week. That will give us more of an idea on the costs involved, but the planning process is at an advanced stage.

"The amount of clinical space we have will double and we will also bring the pharmacy into the main building.
"It is an exciting development and will allow us to serve the ever-growing Cooper's Edge community and surrounding areas.
"We have to jump through hoops to get this done, but hopefully by this time next year the build will be well under way."
The expansion will increase the patient capacity by around a third. The surgery currently has a patient list of around 17,000, but that will increase up to 23,000.
Abbeydale councillor Andrew Gravells, cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: "If this goes ahead as planned, it will be able to expand even further to provide additional much-needed services for the community."
Proceeds from the sale of the land will be reinvested into community facilities.
