Surprise Valentine's Day proposal shocks Kingsholm care worker

ROMANCE is alive and well in Kingsholm.

Nicola Jenner was delighted by boyfriend Jamie White's surprise marriage proposal on Valentine's Day.

The 22-year-old care worker was left stunned when she returned home from a driving lesson on Thursday.

Nicola, who works at Bramble House in Stroud, was due to meet boyfriend Jamie, 23, at his house after the lesson finished.

But when she arrived to find his car was not on the drive, she went straight home to Kingsholm instead.

Her house was in total darkness with nothing but scented candles and the waft of her boyfriend's aftershave to tempt her in.

"There were tiny candles on every surface possible," said Nicola.

"I walked into the kitchen to hear my favourite song,Maroon 5 She Will Be Loved playing.

"My boyfriend was stood there in a shirt smelling of Joop, which is my favourite.

"We write messages to each other on a chalk board and when I looked at it, it said 'will you marry me?'

"Jamie then got down on one knee and out came a beautiful ring.

"I burst into tears, screaming of course.

"It was the most wonderful and surprising thing to happen to me in a long time."

To make plasterer Jamie's proposal even more memorable, the ring belonged to his nan.

It had been handmade by his grandad to make it a true family heirloom. He had also kept with tradition by calling in to see Nicola's dad the week before to ask permission for his daughter's hand in marriage.
