TV royalty Claire Balding picks Gloucester over Cheltenham for race week
RACING royalty has chosen to stay in Gloucester rather than Cheltenham for the duration of the famous festival week.
National treasure Claire Balding (above) has been staying at the Hallmark Hotel in Matson Lane as she fronts Channel 4's racing coverage from Prestbury Park.

The hotel was given a multi-million pound facelift in 2011 and has become one of the city's premier venues.
Despite the luxurious surroundings, Miss Balding and her Channel 4 team were greeted by the sight of a burning car as she returned to the hotel from a day's racing on Wednesday.

Fire crews were called to the nearby Gloucester Ski and Snowboard Centre just after 6.30pm after reports of a vehicle ablaze in the car park. A five-man crew from Gloucester South Fire Station was detained at the scene for 40 minutes. It was not being treated as suspicious.
