Former Chelsea left-back Jordan Tabor is on the verge of agreeing to join Cheltenham Town.

The Oxford-based 18-year-old has been training with the Robins this week and appeared as a second half substitute in Tuesday night's 0-0 friendly draw with Southampton.

After four years in the youth and reserve teams at Stamford Bridge, Tabor has a fine pedigree and is hoping to kick-start his senior career at the Abbey Business Stadium.

"Martin Allen (Robins manager) has said he does not have any funds to give me, but hopefully I can come here, prove myself and move on from there," Tabor said.

"If I can push here, playing League Two football is only going to get me strong, quicker and better.

"I hope to be involved (against Bristol City) tomorrow so I can try and prove myself again."

Tabor was playing local football with Oxford club Northway before he was picked up by Chelsea at the age of 14.

He joined them as a midfielder, but was converted into a full-back and made 10 appearances for the Blues' reserve team last season.

"It's a great club and when you are growing up it's good to be as high as you can to get the best teaching possible and become a better player tactically and technically," he said.

"There were two England left-backs and a Dutch left-back ahead of me, so it's not like you have been released for any other reason than they can afford to bring in better players.

"You can't get too down if you don't make the first team there.

"There are going to get knocks along the way and it's all about how you come back from those so I have to stay strong."

* Whitley Tavern striker Danny Seaward, 22, is on a week-long trial with Cheltenham Town.

* Youth team goalkeeper Joe Perry is set to join Evesham United on work experience.

“Spike, so you have read this article...or have you? I am neither a player (anymore) or parent (unless you know different), that is jealous of this lad. I am giving an opinion that I believe to be true and not jumping on a bandwagon...I have copied and pasted your comments into Word and will remind you of them in about 2/3 years time!”

“Oh Ryan Oh Ryan, you must know so much about football, much, much more than Liam Brady, he's only been doing the job for 13 years at Arsenal, are you jealous or what, I wonder who you are ? !!!!! sound like a very jealous parent or player to me.Give the lad a chance please don't be jealous, have some respect and wish him well.it's not every day a player goes from Cheltenham to Arsenal, or any of the top premiership teams.”

“And if any of you doubted my comment regarding Jamie Edge...In 3 years time it will be the same story minus the names Tabor and Chelsea for Edge and Arsenal...”

“Richard and Northern Robin at the moment things don't look to bad and can't wait for the season to start. If we stay free from injury I think it could be possible to be in the play offs.”

“You can never have enough good quality strikers IMO - and I think e have that in Hayles, Richards + Hammond. Rest of squad - if we can add Pook, Tabor + Antonio then I think we will be looking like a solid side in League 2. I'm predicting a mid-table finish and I think we almost have the squad to achieve that.”

“I am inclined to agree with you Tarq although as well as being top heavy, it is a somewhat ageing and injury prone strike force on the whole which would be a worry. I have to think that the addition of Tabor, Pook and the mystery championship midfielder are pretty much essential for squad purposes.”

“Richard do you think we are going a bit top heavy on strikers at the moment, what about the rest of the squad??”
