YONG Wang was smuggled into the UK by a ruthless gang six years before he was arrested for having fake ID.

The Minchinhampton take-away worker was jailed for a year after he admitted possessing false identification when he appeared at Gloucester Crown Court.

The 28-year-old, of West End, was found next door to the village's Big Ben Chinese Chippy while police were investigating a possible break-in.

Julian Kesner, prosecuting, said police were called to West End on January 2 because a door to the takeaway was open and there were fears it had been burgled.

Wong told them he was helping at the shop in return for a small amount of cash and staying next door.

They found £2,518.72 in cash that Wong had earned.

Sarah Jenkins, defending, said Wong bought the false document for £300. He has now applied for repatriation.

“Totally agree with you, Lechorche. He's an illegal immigrant, not a violent criminal.

Interestingly, the text in the article in today's Citizen was a bit longer. It definitely said that he was pleased that he would eventually be able to go home and see his elderly parents. Well, if all he wanted was to work hard every day for a low wage, and to be able to see his parents, he could have stayed in China!”

“Is there any point in jailing this guy?
Why not just use his cash to put him on the next plane home?”
