A dedicated teacher is taking on the London Marathon in memory of her sister.

Tuffley primary school teacher Clare Dare is striving to raise money for Leukaemia CARE by taking part in this year’s Marathon in April.

The 33-year-old from Leckhampton said: “My sister Sarah died from leukaemia when she was only 23 and since then leukaemia has been part of my life.

“A friend was diagnosed with it, a pupil I taught was diagnosed with it and a friend’s friend has just had a bone marrow transplant to help fight leukaemia.

Obvious

“Running for Leukaemia CARE was the obvious choice.”

Pupils at Clare’s school – the Grange Primary School – are helping her raise money as she aims to reach her £2,500 target.

Despite the difficult financial climate, Leukaemia CARE charity is hoping this year’s marathon will be the most successful yet and is hoping that people will support runners like Clare with their fundraising.

Eve Martin, Leukaemia CARE’s fundraising director, said: “People like Clare and those that support her are so important to us.

“In times when people and businesses have little money to spare, their generosity is hugely important as it means that we can ensure that everyone who needs our help is able to receive it.”
