“Ok, obviously you are far more in the know than me (although my cousin being CID has guided me on the fact that anyone with defensive training stands as much chance of going to prison as the attacker if excessive force is used). Either way you end up in court. Maybe instead of forum tennis we should realise the true problem that is the justice system in the UK. Your only option of avoiding court is to be a victim and hope for the best. My friend carried out a so called pre emptive strike and the only thing that spared him electronic tagging for the offense was inconclusive CCTV footage.”

“" also know about pre emptive strikes but only someone who has watched way to many movies would think that it all ends with the opponent realing back and running away"............Not if it is done properly!!!! (Again you should know this)!”

“Tom I am indeed and a 2nd dan at Tae Kwon Do, I also know about pre emptive strikes but only someone who has watched way to many movies would think that it all ends with the opponent realing back and running away. Aggressors are usually bigger and stronger than their prey and fully capable of taking a single blow from the weaker opponent. This will then really annoy them and the scuffle that ensues will only be resolved by who ultimately has the greater survival instinct. I have trained for 15 years and am also trained in weapons so please do not question my credentials!

Once a fight starts you have about 30 seconds to end it. The longer it runs the more likely it will not end in your favour. And if your assailant is armed you are extremely foolish to take them on unless you feel you or your loved ones will die anyway!”

“I agree with SB, Simon if you were a martial arts expert like you claim then you would know all about the pre-emptive strike to deal with a situation before it even develops. In this case i would have used it first and then got as far away from the situation as possible!!”
