Teenage girl assaulted in Lydney
A Teenage girl has been assaulted in the Forest of Dean.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the 17 year-old woman was assaulted in Lydney on Monday March 1.
-

The incident happened between 4.45pm and 5pm in Newerne Street.
The victim, from Lydney, got off a bus from Gloucester and walked to the public toilets at the rear of Kaplan's Cafe.
She and another woman were then prevented from leaving the toilets as the door was being held shut from the outside by a group of five girls.
The victim managed to pull the door open and she then visited the Co-op. The same five girls were then waiting outside of the store.
As the victim walked towards Ruddy's fish and chip shop, she was assaulted from behind. She was grabbed by the hair and slapped across the face.
Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident and in particular the second woman that was trapped inside the toilets.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information about it, is asked to contact Gloucestershire Constabulary on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident 361 of March 1. Alternatively people can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A 13-year-old girl from Lydney has been arrested on suspicion of assault. She has been bailed to return to Gloucester Police Station on March 22.

“Fod'r nam, I doubt it very much, my parents brought me up to respect other people and their property. I didn't ever experience corporal punishment at school, the teachers had some clout in those days, quite literally. I just paid attention to the others on the receiving end in morning assembly. The point I was making is that children, even quite young ones are unruly these days, and in some cases violent. Since corporal punishment was abolished violence has become a great deal worse. I gather that teachers are being trained to have to deal with aggressive children, never in my day did that happen, you respected the teachers as well as feared them, corporal punishment was hardly violence, it was disicpline. Violence is when someone hits you in the face or gives you a good a damn good kicking simply because they get sort of sick enjoyment out of it”

“What a horrible group of bullies these girls were. Perhaps someone ought to explain to them how they would be feeling if they had been in the victims shoes. They should be ashamed of themselves and their parents disgusted with their behaviour and their parents should be dishing out punishments for them all before the turn into sick adults who end up causing further misery before they end up costing us tax payers in jail!! Get the parents to step up to the mark!!!! If my kids behaved like this I would be VERY ASHAMED OF THEM AND DISAPPOINTED IN THEM!!
The poor victim what a horrible time she must have had with these SPITEFUL GIRLS.”

“To quote "anon, stroud" - "As a consequence I do not go around mugging old ladies, stealing, joyriding or being a general nuisance to all and sundry"
Are you saying that if you had not grown up in an era of threatened/actual violence inflicted by adults upon children, you WOULD have turned into a mugger/criminal ?
Well I grew up with no violence at home or from teachers at school and I'm not a mugger either.
Violence or the threat of violence by adults towards children is not the answer and should not be encouraged.”

“Give it up, no one has the guts to return to the days of discipline. We are a selfish country reaping our reward. Parents who didnt want kids and cant be bothered to raise them, no respect for ourselves let alone anyone else. Either this country will turn completely lawless or vigilante rule will take over. Either way Britain as a paragon of civilisation is gone.”

“Thought they banished corporal punishment because it bred violence. Seems to me lack of discipline is leading to more violence, sadly often by teenagers and children even younger. Parents either cannot or will not teach their children decent values, and schools are no longer able to discipline children in a manner they do not want a repeat performance of.. Corporal punishment was in school in my day, it wasn't metered out that often either. The knowledge if you stepped out of line you would regret it was enough to keep most, bar the most stupid or deserving from being on the receiving end. As a consequence I do not go around mugging old ladies, stealing, joyriding or being a general nuisance to all and sundry”

“Well, I am sure that the CCTV in the area will have captured everything or is it still not working?
Groups of innocent youths are being dispersed whilst those who really do pose a risk manage to carry out assaults in broad daylight!”
