ACADEMIES have until the end of this week to get their hands on a share of £40million.

In June this year the Education Funding Agency announced that 17 academies in Gloucestershire out of 51 had been successful with their applications for funding under the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund - and now a second round is to come to a close.

On September 10 the EFA opened the second application round, which allows academies to submit one bid for up to £250,000 in relation to five specific "key building condition priorities", which are the replacement or repair of windows, roofs, fire protection systems, boilers and heating systems, or to address emergency asbestos work.

According to the EFA, priority will be given to projects that can "demonstrate urgency and which may result in closure of all or part of the academy or other significant health and safety concerns".
