MUMS and dads are flocking to Eastgate shopping centre to enter The Citizen's Baby and Toddler of the Year competition.

Parents can get their tots photographed by professionals and many are taking the chance to show off their youngsters and see them in print.

Emma Evans, 26, of Gloucester Road, took daughter Abigail Hampton, 20 months, along for the second time.

"We had photos taken for last year's competition but she didn't smile very much and was a bit tearful," she said. "I think she enjoyed it a lot more this year."

Thomas Jones, 28, from Matson, took four-year-old Darcy along. "She loves the camera and is used to having her photo taken by the family," he said. "She's got four brothers and sisters so isn't shy."

Photographer Paul Gillis said the contest is getting more popular each year.
