On Toast has ditched its radio in favour of live music
BUSINESS owner David Purchase has pulled the plug on his radio and is instead inviting local musicians to perform in his shop.
Mr Purchase, who pays £80 a year to have the radio playing at his business On Toast at the Docks, says he is fed up of music license companies PPL, PRS and MCPS fighting with each other for a share of the money. Therefore, he has come up with a drastic solution.

Music man: On Toast's David Purchase and his son Callum Marshall, 18.
He said: "I have no problem in fairly paying royalties, but when there seems to be at least three organisations jostling for money for the same performance then you have to question the legislation they work to.
"There should be one fair license for all.

The new initiative kicked off this weekend with David's son's band performing.

“Live music - great! Nice idea, but I think a PRS fee may still be payable unless it can be proved that any performance contains only original music which is not subject to copyright.”
