Tories elect new leader
Conservatives have a new leader following the resignation of their former council leader.
Keith Pearson (Upton St Leonards) beat Dorcas Binns (Minchinhampton) to the post of party group leader on Stroud District Council at a behind-closed-doors election last night.
The pair went for the job after Frances Roden (Painswick) stood down. For three years she led the group, which was edged out of power at Ebley Mill in May's election.
An alliance of Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green councillors run the council, so Mr Pearson will now lead the largest opposition group.
