Loyal supporter of football league and charity competitions
John Crowther, life president of the Cheltenham Football League, has died aged 88.
Mr Crowther served the league for nearly half a century and his drive, commitment and passion for the organisation and its Charity Cup competitions will be sorely missed.

John Crowther was very proud to serve the Cheltenham Football League in a senior capacity
He first joined the league's management committee in 1967 and was elected its referees secretary in 1972. He served the league in this capacity for ten years, before becoming a vice-chairman in 1989, a post which he held for nearly 19 years. By this time, he had been elected to the office of League President when he became only the ninth person to hold the position in 2007.
Mr Crowther was very proud to serve the league in its most elevated capacity and was rewarded with a life presidency, to complement the life membership of the league that he was afforded in 1988, at the last annual general meeting, held in June, 2012.

Mr Crowther was a particularly fervent supporter of its Charity Cup competitions.
For years, he was a permanent fixture on the admissions gate at each and every Charity Cup final and semi-final, often arriving hours before even the players, to ensure that everything was ready and nothing went amiss.
It was not uncommon for him to be accompanied by his wife Betty, who passed away last year, at the cup finals and the two of them must have been responsible for the raising of countless thousands of pounds over the years, through their diligence and dedication.
