Traffic calming may not happen in Up Hatherley until new houses built
TRAFFIC-CALMING measures in Up Hatherley may not be installed until new housing estates are finished.
But talks are ongoing with Gloucestershire Highways representatives already meeting Up Hatherley councillors over the shelved traffic management scheme for the area.

New ideas put forward have included calming measures for the length of Hatherley Lane, between the B&Q roundabout and the Hatherley Road mini-roundabout.
Others are calling for the roundabout at Grace Gardens and Unwin Road to be made larger to slow traffic down. A pedestrian crossing is wanted for shoppers going to Asda from Hatherley Lane.
Highways manager Chris Riley said: "We went through an extensive consultation with people last year and the result was a very mixed response. There is not a significant accident record at the site so it wouldn't be correct for us to proceed with a scheme that is not supported by the majority of the community.
"We will continue to work with councillors and the parish council to monitor the situation and to consider changes suggested by residents. However, consultation exercises are costly and use up the funding available for works, so we need to be sure there has been a significant enough change to warrant a fresh consultation.
"This may be the case once the various housing and commercial developments in the area are operational."
Gloucestershire County Council's roads bosses secured £600,000 to address traffic problems in the area when the Asda supermarket opened in September 2011.
More than £40,000 has been spent planning the scheme, but ideas were scrapped after local objections.

“Well, I will stop going to Asda then! I am absolutely surrounded by speed bumps, no matter where I go or in which direction. How good for my car can this be, continually going over these things & driving everywhere at a snails pace (hence using more fuel in low gear all the time). Am lucky to get into 3rd gear for more than a few hundred yards as it is.”
