Traffic changes for race week
COUNCIL bosses are working together to try to ensure traffic flows as smoothly as possible through Cheltenham during Gold Cup week.
Cheltenham borough and Gloucestershire county councils have come up with a blueprint to keep people moving between March 12 and 15.
Trevor Gladding, community protection manager for the borough council, said: "We have made some significant changes to the traffic orders in respect of Albert Road, New Barn Lane and Hill Court Road this year, and we hope that this will help keep the traffic flowing."

“Policemen stood interfering by trying to manipulate traffic flow by pressing buttons on traffic lights just cause more congestion. If the lights were left to change normally the traffic flows quicker and you don't seem to sit there for so long fuming as a copper lets 100 cars go before slowly letting another 100 move from another direction. I only ever know this happen during race week. Also, as there will be more drivers over the limit exiting the course at the end of the day than any other event in the town all year, this is where they should be concentrating their efforts.”

“For those that want to know...
No waiting 10:00am to 7:00pm (Parking permit holders exempt)
Albert Road - Both Sides For its entire length
Evesham Road (A435) - Both Sides
From its junction with Clarence Road to its junction with Hyde Lane/Southam Lane
Hill Court Road - Both Sides For is entire Length
New Barn Lane - Both Sides
From its junction with Evesham Road to its junction with New Barn Avenue
Southam Lane - Both Sides
From its junction with A435 Evesham Road to its junction with Old Road Southam
Swindon Lane - Both Sides
For its entire length
However, it would be much, much, MUCH better if the Highways agency would get rid of those 2 stupid offside islands in Albert Road for good. This would enable traffic to flow much smoother all year round!
Convert the Zebra crossing to a Pelican crossing. People take more notice of a traffic light than a Zebra crossing.”
