Tribute to Albert Johnston, the 'best' chief ambulance officer

A Quedgeley councillor has paid tribute to Gloucestershire's former chief ambulance officer Albert Johnston, whose funeral is on Wednesday.

Bert died aged 84 on February 16.

Parish councillor Steve Smith worked under him as assistant chief officer.

He said: "During his time the service in Gloucestershire became probably the best in the UK as he pioneered advanced training for staff which enabled them to carry out procedures that until then were only possible if a doctor was in attendance.

The funeral will take place at St Barnabas Church, in Stroud Road, Tuffley, on Wednesday, February 27 at 2.15pm.
